Hi everyone, This is Shaj (ECE III year) from Government College of Engineering, Bargur.
Totally the selection process consists of two rounds :
(i) Written
(ii) Interview (HR + Technical) Before appearing for Written test we have to fill up the below form format.

14. Expectations from cognizant.

16. What are the qualities a software professional need to excel in his field? (Please prepare for these questions, the answers which you have written for these questions may be asked in the interview, and this will reflect your attitude and your verbal knowledge).
Written test contains three sections ANALYTICAL section (25 Q’s – 30 mins) (This section is very easy, but mind the time)
(1-5) Venn diagram
(6-10) Quantitative questions
(11-15) Data sufficiency
(16-20) Binary conversion (Easiest, you can attend these first)
(21-25) Cubes (Easy ones, R.S.Aggarwal is not enough)
VERBAL section (25 Q’s – 20 mins) (Other than comprehension, this section is quite easy)
(1-10) Comprehension (Please don’t attend these first, these are long passages and difficult to attend) (Best option will be B or C)
(11-15) Find the incorrect sentences
(16-20) Find the correct sentences
(21-25) Arrange the jumbled sentences REASONING section (20 Q’s – 20 mins) (Easiest section in the whole paper and you will find yourself enjoying in this section)
(1-4) Syllogism
(5-6) Logical deduction
(7-15) Find the odd figure out
(16-17) Seating arrangement
(18-20) Logical puzzles (R.S. Aggarwal Verbal and Non-Verbal reasoning is more than enough) (Much preparation is not needed for CTS) (Keep of the R.S. Aggarwal Quantitative aptitude, This doesn’t work for CTS) I dint even touch Apps.
I secured (57/70). I saw this when I was attending interview. And I hope I’m the first. INTERVIEW (This is based only on HR’s) For me it was fully technical, but for my friends it was HR Question’s that played major role.
The HR’s were very friendly Anyway I’ll explain how my interview went :-
Me: May I come in sir?
Int: Yes. Me: Good morning Sir. (And gave a warm, confident hand shake)
Int: Take your seat
Int: okie Mr.Shaj. Tell me about yourself
Me: Started and went well. Then I noticed that my voice was less intense. As I dint have my breakfast and I’m the first one to attend the interview (First member of first panel) so for me it was before lunch by 12.00. I verified him and asked whether I was audible or not?. Then I asked him water. Water was not there, he gave ma a cup of juice. (This is to let u people know how friendly they were)
Me: Thank you sir. Im feeling better now.
Me: Shall I continue?
Int: Yes. You can.
Me: Started again and went till 3 mins. (There was a short pause after this) (I just filled it by saying “Is there anything specific that you would like me to elaborate on?”)
Int: okie. What is your Field of Interest?
Me: Microprocessor 8085
Int: Can you draw the Architecture of that?
Me: Yes. And I started drawing. (After few seconds he interrupted)
Int: Can you program using microprocessor?
Me: Yes sir
Int: Then can you write a program for multiplying two numbers?
Me: Finished the program within 1 min as I have prepared for this question.
Int: Asked me to explain the program.
Me: I did.
Int: Microprocessor operates only on Binary right? Which converts Hexa decimal to binary.
Me: I dunno the right answer for that. I said assembler
Int: How many transistor does 8085 have?
Me: 6500
Int: Why does frequency of the external clock applied to 8085 get divided by 2 internally?
Me: The frequency is divided to have lesser rise time and fall time
Int: Do you know Dual-core. What it consists of?
Me: A Microprocessor and Digital Signal Processor
Int: What are the differences between them?
Me: Told that it is used for specific signal processing applications and DSP consists of Integrated devices like Multiplier etc which are not present in microprocessor.
Int: okie. Tell me about your project which you have presented.
Me: I explained fully with diagram.
Int: What are the papers you presented?
Me: I explained about it.
Int: Do you know to program in C?
Me: Yes
Int: Tell me about pointers/
Me: I told him
Int: Write a program using pointers?
Me: I dint know how to write.. I jus bluffed him. He said Okie.
Int: You are basically an athlete right?
Why dint you participate in any competition after joining the college?
Me: I explained.
Int: You are a Chennai guy., If I offer you a job in coimbatore are you ready to shift there? (All the students to whom this question was asked, were placed in CTS)
Me: I said okie.. It doesn’t matter where I work, rather how I work…
Int: Do you have any question?
Me: I’ve heard that CSE & IT students don’t have to undergo training in CTS. Is it true?
Int: He said no.
Me: What are the most you like and dislike in your trainees?
Int: There are lots to tell man. We will talk about this later. Please tell the next person to come in. (As I was the first person, my interview went for almost 30 mins) (They don’t see whether your answers are correct or wrong, they only see the way you answer, the way you hold your pen, everything matters. Please wear a smile with you, when you enter the interview hall) (I was 1000% confident that Im gonna make through in CTS) To be placed in CTS is very easy. 1.Interchange of letters in a word and the adjacent letters are also to be changed. given letters series like [also few condotions]

If we apply 25 on this it means we have to interchange the letters at positions 2 and 5, and we have to change the adjacent letters 2 and 5

He realized that after 15 mts, and started rowing in opposite direction, he eventually caught his hat under First Bridge.

(5-10) There are five traders Timber, Steel, Cotton, Boots, Wood .
Each sent a Collection of items between them. No two traders have sent the items among themselves. i.e., The Trader who had received
items from X can’t send items to X. Steel sent Wood a collection of boots. Boots sent wood to the sender of Timber. One more condition
is there I don’t remember. But the puzzle was little bit tough. One can get easily confused because the trader names and trading item
names are same. Try to rename them and solve u can come up with an answer, otherwise it might be difficult to untangle the puzzle.five

(31-32) Two questions are of conclusion type. Given some information and asked some questions .They are not problematic ,just general
reasoning.
31. A company provides some Plans for Old age persons in India regarding their health. The plans actually are too costly, so No one
showing interest in joining the Plans.What step among the following will favor company’s plans ?
Some steps were given in a, b, c, d. You need to select the best one.
32. A private organization started a new Scheme on paying School fees. The plan is that if the Parents pay some amount before their
children join in Schools, the Organization will look after their fees payments ..what ever course they may do..the company will bear the
amount? What do you find the reason for Parents not to join in this
Scheme?
Some reasons were given in a, b, c, d. You need to select the best one.
33. 60 members complete a work in 40 days. They worked for 10 days. And eventually 10 members quit the job and remaining people worked
for another 10 days. and again 10 of them quit the job. This continued for every 10 days. How many days did workers take to finish
the work?

hellow friends,,,,
i got a lot of mail asking me to brief my HR interview experience. so im sharing my experience with u guys..
well i got my email from CTS on 28th december 2005 saying tht i have cleared my tech round and have my HR round on 7th jan 2006.
well i made my preparation quite well.. i was prepared for ny sort of HR interview question.. i had nearly two to three mock interview session.
and browsed the website for nearly 1-2 hour.. i got various interesting factors about cognizant.
then the auspious 7th came. i had my interview scheduled at 1 p.m in CTS thoraipakkam. i reached tht place by 11.45 a.m. .they asked me to stay there in the security block till 12.45 p.m. then they gave me a pass and allocated the DB-1 block for some of us.Then i got the panel 4. There were totally one gentle man.
this is the session tht i had with the interviewer
he came to my seating and called me..
i went into the room along with him..
i greeted him first. he offered me seat. i thanked him.
He offered a hand shake and introduced himself as Natraj.
gentle man: what is ur serial number?
Me:408098
gentle man:whts ur aggregate in ur degree?
Me:69% and also added tht my % in degree is not my reflection of my ability cause i was involved in various extra curricular activity like i was the treasurer of my department.
(mean while he was curiously having a glance at my marklist.. he was curiously seeing all my semester marks)
gentleman:what about ur provisional certificate?
i showed him my provisional certificate.
gentle man: how much have u got in ur schooling?
Me:80% in both 10th and 12th.(i gave my 10th and 12th certificate)
gentle man: what r u parents doing?
Me: my father is working in Anna Univ. and my mother is working as teacher?
gentle man: u will be getting ur result comming monday at around 7.30 p.m
Me: thanked him.
shock of my life was waiting on the day of 9th i didnt clear the HR..i couldnt find out why i failed in the HR?? i still couldnt find a proper answer for tht? do tell me if u guys have?? dont say tht ur % in degree is the result of ur failure.. cause i know tht the cutt off% for CTS is 65%.

Aptitude skills. there are some statements and based on these u have to answer 5-6 questions. There are 15 questions in total of this type. Rest of questions are individual ones. Some are easy and some are tricky.
II Section: 25 questions 20 min
2 english passages each followed by 6-7 questions.
Chose correct sentence/incorrect sentence out of following type ques.
Time is a problem in doing these questions.
Don’t try to see all questions.
III Section:20 ques. 20 min
Analytical ability
some boys are girls.
Some girls are birds like questions.
find these type of ques in R.S.Agarwal(verbal)
quest on non verbal type
Choose odd one out from following fig. type questions
What should be next fig. in the sequence.
Find these quest in R.S.Agarwal(non verbal)
Don’t try to go through every question. Cut off will not be very high.
Interview: Respected interviewer was very calm and gives a lot of time to you to express what’s good in u,
What r ur strengths, ur achievements,projects etc.
Breamin calm,composed.
And be honest about urself.
Don’t say anything about which u have little knowledge

Hi Guys…. This is Suchita here….. Hurray Got into Cognizant. Dont worry…. They are very cool people. Will make u comfortable. Ok….. Not wasting much of the time. Let me tell u the pattern for Aptitude.
Aptitude consisted of:
Analytical Section:
Cubes related questions are very important.
Venn diagram questions
Data sufficiency
Verbal Section:
Find out the incorrect sentence
Find out the correct sentence
Passages
You need to have good vocabulary for the verbal section
Logical Section:
This was the most easiest of all.
You can definitely score in this section
Find the odd man out
Analogy of figures (Simple)
then questions like
All birds are sparrows
All peacock are birds.
-> Just find out the appropriate sentence which gives out the best meaning.
And finally there was a word problem. Quite Easy!!!!!!
Note: In our aptitude test there was no negative marking scheme. So enjoy. Out of 200 only 104 people wer shortlisted:

He: Is firewall a hardware, software, or some protocol?
Me: Answered
He: What is RDBMS?
Me: Answered
He: What are the important components required for showing your project graphically?
Me: The entity, relationship betn them, primary key, foreign key……..
He: Ok so do you want to ask me something?
Me: If i m selected, what are the languages that i must study?
He: Answered.
Me: Thank You Sir.
They are very cool guys. Technical and HR is in one round
Out of 104 students, 43 were selected. My name was one of them. Hurray!!!!!Believe me guys i wasnt through TCS and Accenture…… But made it for CTS. Never lose your confidence.
